Today is the beginning of September, and the countdown to our launch service on the 26th. The sensation we’re experiencing is a thrill! We have an amazing team assembled and ready to build this church for God. Launching a church is by far the hardest thing we have ever done – but also the most rewarding to know that we’re doing exactly what God has called us to do. In the end, regardless of system or anyone’s opinion, we are the ones that have to stand before God and reply to His question -”What did you do with what I have given you?”

This, by far. is the question that broadcasts the loudest with our family and our team. It’s hard work, but the joy to know that you are a part of something that will change lives for eternity is overwhelmingly fulfilling and humbling. We absolutely love what we do and what we are doing to launch Journey Church. The countdown of the rest of our lives is about to begin. Come join us if you can. We’d love to have you!

Well, the past few weeks have been amazingly busy…but yet incredibly fun! I’ve watched God unfold so many things for us since we’ve been here in Kingwood, TX. We’ve made some great contacts and had the opportunity to visit 9 churches in 7 days. Whew! They were all great churches-we can’t wait to join with them in reaching this community! God just continues to re-confirm why we are here building Journey Church.

This past week, we spent some time with some amazing families as we dreamed together and began to put into action our plan of reaching the community of Kingwood for God. The countdown of 60 days has begun for us and we couldn’t be more excited on how everything is coming together!

Sandy & I currently are on our way back from a great trip in Atlanta meeting with ARC (Association of Related Churches) and 6 other church planters that are launching as well within the next 6 months. I can’t begin to tell you how comforting and biblical it is to have others in your life that you can learn & glean from. Not to mention the relationships we’ve been able to establish in the process. They truly are amazing people that will do GREAT things for God.

Here, we are meeting as a launch team weekly as well as planning our interest meetings that we will have for those that are interested in being a part of Journey Church. Our I-Phone App is now available (search Journey Church Kingwood TX at the App Store)! Thanks to “Vision Promotional Group” for building our App… it’s awesome! If you’d like their info, let me know!

Well, we are finally here in TX. I have to say that it already feels like home and our kids have made so many friends already! We arrived at our new home Thursday night and began painting the house, and with the help of some of our amazing core team we were able to finish by noon the very next day!! What an awesome team of workers… i can’t talk enough about them! We unloaded Friday afternoon and now practically have everything unpacked and ready to do life here in Kingwood. It’s been an incredible journey to get to this point…only to realize that the Journey is barely beginning. Our house is located on a cul-de-sac that already has 20 kids on it – now just add our 4 kids to the mix and you can imagine how busy it is in the afternoons. It’s awesome! Today (Tuesday) officially began our focus on Journey Church – getting everything in order to function and go after this community for Jesus!

Well, it’s been an amazing last couple of months for the Moreno family as we are coming to an end with our time here in Baton Rouge…we are so very grateful to Bethany World Prayer Center and their executive staff for believing in us and investing in our lives over the past year. In less than a month, we will begin our new life in Houston, TX. I can’t even begin to tell you the excitement that we are experiencing as we prepare to make all the necessary arrangements to get Journey Church off the ground and running. God has been incredibly faithful in all that He has promised, and we are in awe everyday of how we’ve experienced His favor in SO many areas…from meeting the right people to solidify our facility we will meet in…to meeting other families that live there and are already calling Journey Church their home.

Our Facility for Journey Church

Here are some pictures of our facility that Journey Church will call home. We will be meeting at Kingwood Park High School’s Performing Arts Theatre. This auditorium was built a few years ago and seats 700 people. The school and the district have been amazing to work with and we couldn’t be more excited to have our church services there. Our time here in Baton Rouge will end on June 30th and then we will be moving to the Kingwood area around July 9th to get settled into our new home, and help other team members get transitioned and settled as well.

There have been so many cool things taking place in this time – one of them being our launch team meetings. This past Friday night, we had our second launch team meeting with who I’d have to say are some “amazing!!!” people. I’ve always learned that true leadership is measured by the people that you place around you and I’d have to say that God has poured out His favor on us by giving us such an amazing team. We ALL look forward to seeing what God will do with this church and to be a part of it is just so humbling.

What an incredible week we experienced last week over our Spring Break! Our family, along with several other families on our launch team were able to go and spend some time in the Kingwood/Atascocita area. We had many God-moments that so confirmed we were right where we were meant to be.

One of the many exciting moments that took place was one of our desires was to meet the superintendent of the schools in the area to discuss possible venues we could use for our church plant. Well, the first item on our agenda was to observe a school that our 11 yr. old would attend. No sooner than we entered the offices and introduced ourselves, to our left stood 3 people! (you guessed it!) The Superintendent, along with his Assistant, who is the facilities director of the schools were standing right there. (talk about God!) After talking with him for quite some time, I found that he is a christian man that loves God. By the end of our visit as I shared a glimpse into our vision his comment was, “whatever you need, let me help you!” We left the school sensing the Lord telling us… “whatever you need, let me help you”. These moments were daily as we were there…

One of our team members was in the process of looking for a job and an apartment to live in. Within 24 hours, they were not only able to find an apartment that only God could orchestrate, but was able to find a job in the profession they are in and the employers so appreciated her heart that they are allowing her to custom tailor her own schedule that would allow her to work for the church as she so desires.

Another team member who is a businessman, sold his business in December 2009, and began a new venture. He has been traveling to Kingwood on multiple occasions now meeting with clients that he’s been able to establish relationship with and God is opening huge doors for him and his new business that will bring a tremendous benefit to the city! In fact, while traveling with this businessman, we stopped at a local Starbucks in Kingwood, and as he was situating his product two men walked by who were inquisitive about his product. Well, one hour later, not only did they buy product, but come to find out the gentleman were head associates of a large corporation that sold acoustics and products to church organizations. (Cool huh!) Through our conversation with them, we were the able to retrieve multiple contacts for the area.

These and many other stories have been taking place with every trip we’ve taken. The steps of a team after God are ordered by the Lord. There is nothing more satisfying and fulfilling than to know that God is not only orchestrating your steps, but also having the path carved out right before your eyes before you even arrive (the superintendent). As we returned from Kingwood to our current home in Baton Rouge, God was not done! We received a phone call the very next day that our house in Arkansas that has been on the market for well over a year had a buyer. This by far has been an exclamation point of God’s reaffirming arm!

Our heart is burning more and more for the Kingwood area and also a supernatural compassion for the people there. The countdown has begun for our move, and we couldn’t be more excited to do what God has called us to do.

Two and a half years ago, God began a stirring in Sandy & I’s hearts that has become stronger & stronger as the days go by. It started as a thought and then a dream to plant a life-giving church of our own and through time, much prayer & counsel from key leaders in our life it has begun to take shape into what it is today.

After serving under the leadership of Pastor Rick Bezet from New Life Church of Arkansas for eight years, we were sent out to prepare for our future church plant while serving under the leadership of Pastor Larry Stockstill of Bethany World Prayer Center in June 2009. I have been honored & blessed beyond measure to serve under these two mighty men of God and pray that I take with me the many life lessons, strength of the word, and leadership that they have taught me over the course of time.

During our 21 days of prayer & fasting in January 2010, our main prayer focus was for God to show us the city to which He has called us. We had visited a number of cities throughout the course of this past year and were drawn to two in particular. Throughout the fast, our hearts began growing for the city of Houston, TX and during this time we actually took our 2nd trip to the area of Kingwood / Atascocita, TX. On this trip, the peace of God within us was undeniable! An overwhelming burden for the area was deposited in our hearts and divine connections were made as we felt a sense of “home” that we’d never felt in any other place previously visited…

With that being said, we are thrilled to announce that the leadership of Bethany World Prayer Center will be sending us out to begin this new venture of our life in July 2010. Our projected plans are to launch Journey Church Texas in January 2011.
